A word from our founder

Some visitors will already know something of my past history. I do not intend to discuss it here, and I do not accept every characterisation that has been published about me; I leave others to their own accounts. What I can speak to is the present.

JAFLAS Dr Alan Blacker & Co. CIC exists for one purpose: to turn law into justice for people who cannot afford it. It is a community interest company — its assets are locked into community benefit — and it is recognised by the Bar Standards Board as a Legal Advice Centre, accommodating experienced barristers and solicitors who give their time to this work. Free at the point of demand, we serve pensioners, disabled people, veterans, families facing debt, prisoners, and children with special educational needs.

The people we help say it better than I ever could. Adam Richardson, who has known me for nearly forty years, writes that I am "often the voice for those that don't feel like they have a voice". George Brian Hicks, a retired company director, tells us: "If I needed assistance in legal matters I would be very happy to put my affairs into his capable hands." And John Kimberley, a managing director, found my advice "timely and accurate" — advice he "won't hesitate to seek again".

I am proud, privileged and humbled by those who stand by me and who continue to rely upon my advice and representation.

The past is not erased by a webpage. But the measure of this organisation is the help it gives, freely, to the people who need it most. That is the work. You are welcome to judge us on it.
